Join us at the Draw Off Litter Pick for a mix of fun and educational activities! Take part in heritage walks to learn about the history of the Thames and its role in London’s water system, or join guided litter-picking walks around Richmond, from the riverside to the town centre and Old Deer Park. Prefer to go at your own pace? Borrow a litter picker and explore the towpath on your own. There will also be an interactive display and a tray of river water where you can discover local wildlife, learn about different types of litter, and find out how to dispose of it responsibly

👨‍👩‍👧 Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
📍 Meeting point: The river end of Whittaker Avenue, near the Richmond War Memorial

No booking needed—just turn up on the day!

👢 Tip: Dress for the mess – Thames mud is legendary for leaving its mark!

Schedule for led walks:

  • Heritage walks: 10:45 and 11:45
  • Litter picking walks: 10:50, 11:15, 11:40, 12:05, 12:30

*The event coincides with the annual Thames Draw-Off, when the Port of London Authority (PLA) lowers the water level between Richmond Lock and Teddington Lock to its natural low-tide level for essential maintenance and inspection. This creates a dramatic sight as the river appears to “drain,” exposing the riverbed for repairs, sediment clearing, and ecological study. It also provides the perfect opportunity to help clear litter and protect local wildlife.
