Education

Habitats & Heritage environmental education and outreach work provides opportunities for people of all ages to engage with local history and the real issues facing the world we live in. Learning about the issues confronting our planet on a global, national and local level helps people to become proactive problem solvers and advocates for the built and natural environment on their doorstep.

Our work includes:

Duke of Edinburgh Award Volunteering

We run monthly sessions for Duke of Edinburgh Award students who volunteer with us to get their award. Many students stay with us after the first year to get their silver or gold award and many continue to volunteer with us beyond their award sessions. We teach practical nature conservation skills and importantly why conservation work is so vital. For more information on our Duke of Edinburgh Award programme click here

Working with Students

At Habitats & Heritage, we collaborate with schools to promote environmental initiatives, engage students in nature conservation, and support volunteering projects. We also partner with colleges and universities to offer internships and placements on impactful projects. Through our volunteer supervisor program, we provide training and hands-on experience for those starting in nature conservation. Additionally, our team visits schools to speak at assemblies and lead practical projects on school grounds.

Walks & talks

At Habitats & Heritage we believe education is for all ages. We organize walks and talks with nature and heritage experts for diverse groups, including adults with learning difficulties, ESL learners, and the general public. We’re committed to finding new ways to educate and engage communities in south and west London through online and in-person activities. Contact us to explore how we can run educational sessions, walks or talks for your group or organisation.

Resources for self exploring

With schools having to move to remote learning we would like to support in our way by giving you access to our fun and interactive activity packs for Key stages 1 & 2. Find out all about the nature and heritage on your door steps with each activity. Remember to share with us all that you create, find and learn. Find the available packs here.
