Grimwood Road Community Garden

We are thrilled to announce that Richmond Council have awarded Habitats & Heritage the lease to manage the Grimwood Road garden site in Twickenham for community benefit! We’ll be starting to manage the site officially from the first of September 2025. We are very excited about the potential of the greenhouse and surrounding gardens to become a tranquil and productive space that will promote personal, community and environmental wellbeing.

  • Raised £2,140.00
  • Target £5,000.00

What will the site become?

As you can see from the photos – there is work to do! It will take a little time to get the site established and set up for daily use. Ultimately, we hope to work with partners and residents to realise a variety of community benefits. These include:
Wildlife Gardening  Wildlife gardening demonstration centre hosting talks and workshops that support the aims of the Richmond Biodiversity Partnership.
Space to Grow  Space to grow where groups such as unpaid carers, people suffering from poor mental health, and people with disabilities can work productively together.
Sustainability Centre  Sustainability demonstration centre for talks and workshops on climate positive approaches to water, waste and energy.
Training and Education  Training and education site for students and the public to attend workshops and courses related to horticulture, creative arts, spoken word, hospitality.

What your donation can help us achieve:

Every pound you give will go directly to transforming this green space into a thriving hub for growing, learning and community. Local support is vital! when funders see strong community backing, it strengthens our case for larger grants.

Your donation will help us to:

  • Install raised beds,
  • Establish a community orchard,
  • Restore existing growing spaces,
  • Build a shaded area for saplings,
  • Create a patio with tables and chairs,
  • Equip the site,
  • Provide learning facilities and bring in expert speakers.

How you can get involved

Be part of this exciting community! There’s no doubt about it – we’re going to need some help with this one! There are a number of ways you can get involved.

SURVEY: Please tell us your thoughts about our plans. This will provide very important evidence to help us secure funding. Share the link with as many residents as you know encourage them to complete the survey too. Link: https://forms.office.com/e/gRirGkHVmZ

VOLUNTEER: We want to establish a group of keen local volunteers who can help battle back the bramble and start preparing the space for growing. The survey has a question where you can register your interest to volunteer.

LAUNCH EVENT: Saturday 13th September from 2pm – 4pm. We already have some funding from the Mayor of London’s Community Fund to host an event. Come along for cake, a tour, activities and a chance to share your views. Hold the date!

It's wonderful that Habitats & Heritage are reopening this site to the public after it has been disused for so long. I look forward to visiting and volunteering. You can never have too many wheelbarrows!
