Perfect Strangers: The Families of the Bazalgette Mausoleum
- June 13 @ 11:45 am - 12:45 pm
- Habitats & Heritage event

A mausoleum is usually the site of remembrance for a single family, but what happens when a mausoleum is purchased by a new family? This talk explores the unique story of the Bazalgette Mausoleum – a building containing the remains of two entirely unrelated families. Dr Helen Brown of Habitats & Heritage considers themes of belonging, ownership, identity and memory connected to a site of personal grief. Here, belonging is temporal, changing, and open to reinterpretation. The talk will finish with an exclusive tour of the mausoleum which will soon be closed for a period of essential conservation work.
