LFA: The Burton Mausoleum Reopened

  • June 4 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • Habitats & Heritage event

Join us for screenings, exhibits and conversations exploring the reopened Burton Mausoleum as a shared site of belonging.  A whole afternoon of activities, exhibits and screening of a new documentary about the newly reopened Bedouin-tent style Burton Mausoleum

Thursday 4th June 14:00 – 17:00 – Free

By confronting Sir Richard Burton and Lady Isabel’s complex portrayals of Islam, Africa and South Asia (amongst others), the event invites visitors to take responsibility for reframing colonial narratives and build trust with the communities they historically engaged with.

Through dialogue and reinterpretation, we aim to broaden who feels seen in London’s heritage spaces. Open to residents, community groups and heritage enthusiasts committed to more inclusive public histories.

Location:

Richmond Old Town Hall

Whittaker Ave,
Richmond
TW9 1TP
