Can be seen from February to October when they are not hibernating. Although they are a common species, they are still protected in the UK under the Wildlife and Countryside Act
The Common Frog can spawn up to 5000 eggs, and once hatched, they take 14 weeks to transform into baby frogs (a froglet!). Frogs will also return to the same pool/location they were born in once they mature. This happens in other aquatic species, including salmon.
A pond in a garden will attract frogs, but shallow water dishes/bird baths placed in shaded areas, so their water temp remains stable, can also encourage them. They can be great for the garden as they feed on insects that would otherwise damage plants.
