New Friends for Nursery Green Hampton

Nursery Green is a small park just off the Avenue in Hampton opposite All Saints Church and close to the Shooting Star Chase Hospice and Sainsburys.  Its name recalls the days when the area was covered in nurseries growing flowers and fruit, or as those who grew up in Hampton in the 70s and 80s remember, derelict greenhouses and broken glass!

Habitats & Heritage is supporting residents who want to set up a Friends Group for Nursery Green with a view to improving the park.  The group’s activities could potentially include:

  • practical work such as planting bulbs and wildflowers and litter picking
  • organising small local events for children such as nature trails
  • liaising with the Parks Department if there are issues such as vandalism that need sorting out and to explain what local people would like to happen in the park; and
  • making sure that ideas for improving the park are put forward when funding is available.

The Council currently has limited funding for parks but Friends Groups can apply for quite a lot of money available only to the voluntary sector, both via the planning system and from charitable trusts and businesses.
