Richmond Arts & Ideas Festival: Grove Gardens Chapel and Feeding London

  • 17 June 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
  • £5
  • Habitats & Heritage event

Habitats & Heritage will be hosting an open day at Grove Gardens Chapel, a fine example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture in the leafy suburb of Richmond upon Thames. Built as a mortuary chapel in 1875, it was disused by 1964. Despite a huge campaign to conserve the building in the 1990s, it is unfortunately at risk once more due to subsidence brought on by climate change.

This event is an opportunity to learn more about the history of the building and the threats posed by climate change to London’s Victorian architecture. The event will be combined with an exhibition called ‘Feeding London’, which tells the story of London’s former market gardens of Twickenham and Hampton. There will be activities for children relating to the architecture of the building and vegetable growing.

There will be time for self-guided tour of the building and surrounding area.

Admission costs £5 plus Eventbrite booking fee.
