  • Habitats & Heritage event

Join Habitats & Heritage, as part of Richmond’s Great Big Green Week, for a workshop building a microscope from recycled materials to use to identify microplastics in local water sources. The workshop will take you through step by step to build your own Microscope to take home. There will also be a chance to learn about identifying microplastics in water samples.

The session will take place at theĀ ETNA Community CentreĀ on 15th June, from 7:15PM.

This workshop is advised as suitable for adults and children 10+

After a short introduction about microplastics as a problem in rivers, workshop participants will assemble a microscope using mainly recycled materials Following this, participants will learn how to use the microscope and investigate water samples that participants can bring with them. Participants will be encouraged to take the microscopes home and continue to investigate and collate data near their homes and report their findings to Habitats & Heritage.

This workshop is helping to shape a new citizen science project for Habitats & Heritage. Help us create a project to gain better understanding of our local water sources.

We ask that you bring a sample of water from a local source to inspect as part of the workshop.

*Please note one booking is can be for an individual or up to 4 people (including children 10+) making 1 Microscope.
