Shot Tower at Crane Park
New volunteers are warmly welcome to these events organised by volunteers of London Wildlife Trust.
London Wildlife Trust volunteers write: “We are renewing the tapping rails along the edges of our hoggin path, which are now nearly 30 years old and have disappeared or deteriorated badly in places. One of our volunteers has generously donated the wood and we are starting to renew them this Sunday, but it is a big project for us and will take quite a long time.
It would be an enormous help if we could recruit some more help for this particular project. The wood will have to be cut to size on site, old boards taken out where needed and the new ones put in. A nice project for anyone who enjoys DIY, but there are a variety of tasks, large and small, involved and there’s no need for anyone to have any experience. We provide tools and equipment.
Dates of Sunday workdays we’ll be dedicating to the replacement are 30 July, 20 August and 27 August. Meet at the toolstore beside the Tower in Crane Park at 10.30 for the morning session or 1.30pm if coming for the afternoon session only. Each session will last around 2.5 hours depending on weather etc. Bring lunch if intending to stay all day. We provide tea and coffee at lunchtime. Best to wear long sleeves and long trousers and bring water and sunscreen in the summer.
We also have a weekly workday on Thursday morning from 10.30am to 1pm. Same meeting point.
Contact Eleanor Lawrence (eleanor.lawrence5@virginmedia.com) if you would like to come and she will send directions to the site.”
