All artworks are exhibited anonymously on the event website and sold for £45 each on a first come, first served basis. This enables buyers to purchase art they like at an affordable price, whilst offering them the chance of owning work by a renowned artist or celebrity. Only when the art is sold is the name of the artist revealed.
All profits from the Secret Art Sale go to support the work of local charity Habitats & Heritage.
The Secret Art Sale has proven very popular with artists and buyers over the last six years. More than 2,000 artworks were donated by
local artists, art students, Royal Academicians and celebrities including Ken Howard OBE RA, Sir Quentin Blake CBE FCSD FRSL RDI, Norman Ackroyd CBE RA, Peter Randall-Page RA, Ian Ritchie CBE RA, Alison Wilding OBE RA, Tom Phillips CBE RA, James Butler MBE RA, Nigel Hall RA, Chris Wilkinson OBE RA, Frank Bowling OBE RA, Piers Gough CBE RA, John Wragg RA, Roger McGough CBE FRSL, Axel Scheffler, Dr. Janette Kerr RSA HON PPRWA, Dame Emma Thompson, David Harsent, Julian Clary, Deborah Meaden and many more. With their support, we have raised more than £70,000 for environmental projects in south and west London.
Axel Scheffler, the best-selling illustrator of many favourite children’s picture books, including the award-winning The Gruffalo is one of the charity’s patrons and donates an illustration every year.
Axel says: “The Secret Art Sale is a unique way to raise funds for the important work that Habitats & Heritage does. I’m delighted to take part again this year and I encourage other artists to contribute a piece of art for this great cause.”
Lucia Pekarova, Habitats & Heritage Events Lead says: “We are delighted so many renowned artists have donated art. It is not just for professional artists – we would encourage everyone to get involved by contributing or buying art. This is our flagship fundraising event of the year and we want to make this our best Secret Art Sale yet.”
This year, we are hoping to offer up to 500 works of art for sale, making this our biggest Secret Art Sale yet. The event will raise much-needed funds for our work in nature conservation and biodiversity, urban greening, community nature initiatives and the protection and renovation of historic hidden gems in the local built environment.
