Ham Balsam Bash

  • 15 July 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
  • Habitats & Heritage event

Join Habitats & Heritage for a Balsam Bash along Ham Tow Path and surrounding areas as we continue the control of the invasive species.

Introduced to the UK in 1839, Himalayan balsam is now an invasive plant, found especially on riverbanks and in waste places where it has become. Himalayan  Balsam  outcompetes native riverside species reducing the biodiversity of the river bank. Physical control of Balsam is an effective management. The task will be to remove the Balsam so native species have a better chance of surviving.

Full instructions and safety briefing will be provided. We ask that volunteers bring their own work/ gardening gloves for the session. Please wear clothes for manual work (long sleeves recommended) and boots or wellingtons as this work is conducted in muddy conditions.
