Job Title: Nature Conservation Intern

Employer: Habitats & Heritage

Salary: Unpaid

Hours: Part-time (14-21 hours per week), temporary contract (3 months).

Holiday entitlement: 2.5-4 days (depending on number of hours per week), plus any bank holidays that fall on intern’s working days

Reports to: Nature Conservation Officer

Location: Home / office hybrid. Expected 1 – 2 days per week in the office or on-site. Our office is located in the ETNA centre, Twickenham.

Key responsibilities and tasks:

  1. Assist with running practical conservation volunteering sessions
  2. Help with citizen science projects
  3. Help organise local ecology data records
  4. Carry out small tasks to contribute to larger projects
  5. Support delivery of ‘Green Hubs’ project, including helping at public planting events
  6. Write content for website and social media
  7. Help with administrative tasks

Opportunities provided for training/upskilling:

You will have the chance to learn the basics of:

  • Writing risk assessments
  • Using GIS to map citizen science data
  • Running bat walks
  • Sharpening and maintaining tools
  • Volunteer session organisation
  • Writing simple funding applications

Person specification:

Essential

  • Interest in nature conservation
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft 365
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good teamworking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Willing to adhere to charity’s values
  • Good organisation skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of attending practical nature conservation volunteering sessions
  • Data entry experience or experience using Excel
  • Experience with fieldwork
  • Confident talking to members of the public
